In this role, Roberta will continue to provide strategic leadership for the Honors Program. In her expanded capacity as Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, she will serve as a deputy to Steven Girardot, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and will work on a range of undergraduate curricular initiatives, including general education and its assessment, undergraduate academic policies, and University System of Georgia (USG) initiatives. She will also provide leadership for OUE’s assessment, data and analytics, and accreditation responsibilities.  

For more than 8 years, Roberta has done transformative work leading our Honors Program and contributing to the leadership of OUE,” said Steven Girardot, vice provost for Undergraduate Education. “In this expanded role, she will continue to advance undergraduate educational innovation and support student success across the Institute. I am excited to work with her in this new capacity,” he said.

Roberta has an impressive background at Georgia Tech as an award-winning teacher, interdisciplinary scholar, and student-focused administrator. She joined the School of Public Policy in 1999 and directed the Pre-law Program until 2005, expanding the pre-law curriculum and initiating the Law, Science & Technology Minor. She led a three-year National Science Foundation grant project engaging interdisciplinary teams of students in problem-driven learning on challenging problems in bioethics and biotechnology. She was jointly appointed to Georgia State University’s College of Law, where she connected Georgia Tech students interested in intellectual property law with law student mentors and taught classes enrolling Georgia State law students and Georgia Tech graduate students.

In 2014, Roberta joined OUE as Director of the Honors Program. She led a comprehensive transformation of the Honors Program to a fully integrated Living Learning Community (LLC), expanding student enrollment and the menu of Honors Program classes and successfully incubating several Honors Program classes for dissemination to all undergraduate students. In addition to her leadership role in the Honors Program, Roberta has served as a critical member of OUE’s senior leadership team for undergraduate education. 

Roberta earned her Ph.D. in History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Notre Dame, her J.D. at the University of Wisconsin School of Law, and her B.A. from Swarthmore College.
